چکیده

A reduced order modelling approach for predicting steady aerodynamic flows and loads data based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and global Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD), that is, POD for multiple different variables of interest simultaneously, is presented. A suitable data transformation for obtaining problemadapted global basis modes is introduced. Model order reduction is achieved by parameter space sampling, reduced solution space representation via global POD and restriction of a CFD flow solver to the reduced POD subspace. Solving the governing equations of fluid dynamics is replaced by solving a non-linear least-squares optimization problem. Methods for obtaining feasible starting solutions for the optimization procedure are discussed. The method is demonstrated by computing reduced-order solutions to the compressible Euler equations for the NACA 0012 airfoil based on two different snapshot sets; one in the subsonic and one in the transonic flow regime, where shocks occur. Results are compared with those obtained by POD-based interpolation using Kriging and the Thin Plate Spline method (TPS).

State-space representation of the unsteady aerodynamics of flapping flight

State-space representation of the unsteady aerodynamics of flapping flight" (2014). ARTICLE INFO ABSTRACT Article history: A state-space formulation for the aerodynamics of flapping flight is presented. The Duhamel's principle, applied in linear unsteady flows, is extended to non-conventional lift curves to capture the LEV contribution. The aspect ratio effects on the empirical formulae used to...

Proper Orthogonal Decomposition Extensions and Their Applications in Steady Aerodynamics

The development and application of model reduction techniques have been widely investigated for problems in unsteady aerodynamic systems, driven mainly by the need to develop effective economical computational models capturing as much flow physics as possible. Nonlinear Modeling and Control Design of Active Helicopter Blades

The paper presents the theoretical basis for the simulation of active helicopter blades. The analysis of active helicopter blades is based on models for the structure, aerodynamics, actuation and sensing. For simulation and analysis purposes, the blade structural model is discretized in space using a Galerkin approach. The effect of the integral actuation enters the beam model via an active bea...

Fast Prediction of Transonic Aeroelasticity Using Computational Fluid Dynamics by Mark Woodgate Bsc. List of Most Relevant Publications

The exploitation of computational fluid dynamics for non linear aeroelastic simulations is mainly based on time domain simulations of the Euler and NavierStokes equations coupled with structural models. Current industrial practice relies heavily on linear methods which can lead to conservative design and flight envelope restrictions. The significant aeroelastic effects caused by nonlinear aerod...

Evaluation of the Centre Manifold Method for Limit Cycle Calculations of a Nonlinear Structural Wing

In this study the centre manifold is applied for reduction and limit cycle calculation of a highly nonlinear structural aeroelastic wing. The limit cycle is arisen from structural nonlinearity due to the large deflection of the wing. Results obtained by different orders of centre manifolds are compared with those obtained by time marching method (fourth-order Runge-Kutta method). These comparis...
